Ban Sisters from wearing pants/slacks!!! Why? Who "wears the pants" at the hall?

in 1979 my mum was studying and came to the meeting in a womens suit with pants/slacks.

she was told by her teacher not to wear pants to the meetings only dresses.

well, my mother never wore pants again....ever!

I do live in an area where winter is freezing .I use to wear pants under my long winter coat with the legs tucked into my snow boots so no one could really know . I still had comments of how this could stumble someone ,but I have always had a stubborn streak and did what I wanted anyways .

I always thought it was alot of nonsense "no pants ' for women . We use to have these two sisters in the early 1980's that loved a nice pantsuit . Both were in their 70's and would be chastized by our 30 yr old book study conductor for wearing the pantsuits to BS. It got so bad they would give local need talks about it I think they got some reproval for it eventually just for direpecting the Elders counsel . Those ladies were so liberated ,I never understood why they wanted to be Witnesses ...

last month i got word that a witness i had known had died suddenly.

i hadn't spoken to her since my disfellowshipping six years ago, but we had been good friends.

upon learning of her death, i wrote a letter of sympathy to her fleshly brother, also a witness, who had been a good friend of mine as well.

Quendi , I know what you mean . All you can do is feel pride in YOUR conduct because you did the right thing . My husband keeps telling me no matter how soicially inept the witnesses are HE will always do what he feels is right in matters like this . Just a few weeks ago I learned my brothers wife lost her Father . It made me sad they did not call ,but I sent out sympathy notes to them and their daughter . I have to let it roll off like water on a ducks back ,and honestly feel sorry for them . In this life precious memories are made when we let others love us ,their stubborness deprives them of this love .

the other day, though, i was remembering my early days of posting (since 2004) and ones i had corresponded with..... so many wonderful people who have contributed their opinions on this forum, and sent good wishes to others throughout the years.

some i've noticed still post at this forum.

The Local Gay Friendly Church!

so in my continuing quest to find a church which accepts me and provides me some spiritual encouragement every sunday, i decided to drop the baptists and search elsewhere.

i went on the internet and searched for gay friendly churches.

we found a methodist church in nottingham and we decided to go today.. when we entered, everyone was so welcoming.

Tim ,I'm sorry it wasn't a good 1st impression .Maybe it was an off week . Give it another try before writing them off .

The Methodist church I visited had some very good services .They do like to sing alot and I did find it a bit excessive . They feel the singing is your way to take part in the worship service . As JW I think we got use to being spoon fed ,and in other churches you are expected to be an active part of your own spirituality .

Have you asked about Adult sunday school ? my Methodist friends attend this right before regular services and enjoy it very much . I think alot depends on the Pastor also . The first pastor I met was awesome ! His talks were intellignet and motivating . The next one was good ,but not as invigorating .

LisaObeesa I LOVE you and how you raised your children ! Mad Sweeney are you serious ? Have you never seen the excitement and joy in a very small child when they talk about Santa and elves ect ???

I think as long as when the child begins asking questions you are honest them it is okay up until then to 'play' out the Santa fantasy . Kids are smarter than we give them credit . They just seem to get it as they mature what is really going on . Once they get to school the 'secret' comes out eventually ,but they also get it that it ias all about FUN and LOVE . What hurts about that ?

maybe it is a good thing if it makes them to appreciate later in life that if something sounds to good to be true ,it probably is ! It may also not make them so gulliable to believe in any invisable creatures affecting their lives ,but rather the principles behind the beliefs .

update and unexpected apology from JW housekeeper

my sister called me this evening to tell me the jw housekeeper for my father called to apologize for her behavior on friday !.

the woman apologized to my sister for being harsh to her , and for being judgemental towards me .

The woman apologized to my sister for being harsh to her , and for being judgemental towards me . She wanted my number in order to call me ,but my sister said she was not 'allowed' to give out that information . My number is in the phone book so it is not hard to find if she really wants to . As far as I know there has never been a public announcement about me ...it is all word of mouth and gossip . So maybe she got counseled Sunday about passing judgement w/o any personal knowledge . IDK

So far she has not contacted me , and I am not holding my breath ,the answering machine is on though .

I do appreciate the gesture of apology to my sister though ,because she certainly did not deserve being treating like she had commited a crime .

today i went early to my dad's house to help my disabled sister with medical paperwork .

at 10am the cleaning lady shows up .

she was a jw recruit of my mom's yrs ago, and use to be like a sister to us a really long time ago .
